I’ve been thinking and praying about children’s programming a lot lately. Many years ago, one of my kids used to watch Mary Poppins over and over and over again. I can’t help but think of the song A Spoonful of Sugar. It seems to me that “just a spoonful of sugar” helps more than just the medicine go down. It seems that all sorts of sin, even sorcery, immodesty and idolatry are easier to swallow when coated with a little sugar. And if it’s a “frozen treat” well then, even better! Here is just a small excerpt from her excellent post:
…This week my Facebook page exploded with raving endorsements of the movie “Frozen,” and I again repented of my arrogant views on ancient Israel. We are guilty of the same exact sins, except the indictment against us is far worse. We’ve dressed up our witches and made replica dolls for our daughters to play with.
Everybody just loves “Frozen”, the Teen Wiccan Facebook page extolled its virtues:
“Who’s seen Frozen? I thought it was great! A wonderful example of how power is not good or bad, it just IS. It’s what you DO with it that sounds. People will try to control your power, your magick. You can’t let them. You need to just be you and do your own great things in the world. Frozen is an example of a witch who learned a valuable lesson: that connecting to your true self is the key to unlocking your greatest potential.” – grammar, punctuation, and emphasis theirs
A Christian blogger postulated that perhaps “’Frozen’ is the most Christian movie of the year”, and that it was filled with a redemptive story line. Many, many, and many more of my Christian friends saw it, bought it, and everybody wants to just “Let it Go!” I wish it would go, that it was gone, that my fellow believers would just let it go slither it’s way back into the darkness! We have taken hold of the tail of quite an animal, we are mesmerized, and cannot or will not release this beast.
I didn’t see the movie and I am not going to. I do not “need” to see it to criticize it. Elsa is a witch, she has supernatural abilities, and conjures up the forces of nature to do her bidding. Her feared powers are locked away by her bumbling parents, until the course of events brings all out into the open and Elsa flees to the mountains while belting out the epic ballad of “Let it Go!”
“It’s time to see what I can do, to test the limits and break through. No right, no wrong, no rules for me, I’m free”
Fellow believers, in all gravity please ask yourself…are SERIOUSLY telling me your okay with this? Do you not see this for what it is? Do you not hear it? This is a witch declaring that she lives outside of “the rules” and there is “no right, no wrong.” Is this what you want to teach your children? Please reconcile the Sh’ma (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) and movies like this for me. I can assure that using any of the Bible translations I own, that it can’t be done. Adonai has no association with such things and neither do His people.
